What is Spirulina?
The definition of Spirulina according to many sources and the dictionary is as follows: "Spirulina is a microscopic blue-green alga in the shape of a spiral coil, living both in sea and fresh water. Spirulina is the common name for human and animal food supplements produced primarily from two species of cyanobacteria: Arthrospira platensis , and Arthrospira maxima ." So basically it is a form of blue-green algae.
My Discovery and Experience
I came across Spirulina last October when my wife became seriously ill with the H1N1 virus. We have 2 children together and at the time they were 4 and 2 years old. When she found out she was sick she quarantined herself to our bedroom for 7 days only leaving to go to the bathroom and for a doctor visit.I was determined to keep my children and myself healthy. My children ended up getting the preventative vaccine immediately but there was none available for anyone in my age group.
So I ran to Walmart and bought these drinks made by Odwalla called Superfood. I drank maybe 3-4 of these a day. It contained 1,000 mg of Spirulina per serving and it tasted delicious. Also, just to be safe, made my children drink one of these everyday for about 10 days. They loved it as well, which was surprising to me because it is green and looks terrible but tastes really delicious.
Well after about 15 days of not getting sick from wife or anybody else that had the virus I attributed it to cleanliness and the power of Spirulina. I did more research and discovered that I could buy supplements at GNC. I have been taking 1 -2 capsules daily along with my wife and we feel great! We get colds less often, we feel more energized and we have less aches and pains.
